Apr 25, 2008 - 3:55 PM - by Sea Hag
10:06 a.m. April 25, 2008

SOLANA BEACH – A swimmer was killed Friday morning after a shark attack off Fletcher Cove, officials said.

Sheriff's deputies said they were called at 7:20 a.m. to aid the man. A helicopter initially was sent to take the man to a hospital, but he was pronounced dead on the beach.

The swimmer, who was believed to be in his 50s, was attacked as he was swimming about 150 yards offshore, lifeguard officials said.

The man was swimming with a group of about 10 other swimmers, heading north from Fletcher Cove, when the attack occurred. The group regularly swims at the cove.

Witnesses told lifeguards that a “big gray shark” attacked the man, biting both his legs, said Craig Miller, a Solana Beach lifeguard.

“I can't remember a shark ever being in this area before,” Miller said.
The other swimmers said the man yelled and they came to his aid and saw he was being... [Read More]

Apr 24, 2008 - 7:01 PM - by FishingLTJ
Do you love to fish but can’t afford a traditional fishing boat? Then why not try one of the inflatable small fishing boats at only a fraction of the cost. If you get a good quality inflatable boat it will last you a long time, what’s more you’ll be able to fish in all your favorite places as these are so easily transportable. Inflatable small fishing boats are small enough to travel in the trunk of your car.

Small fishing boats give you, the angler, the freedom to fish in areas that larger boats just can’t access. Inflatable boats come in a variety of styles but probably the best types of small fishing boats are kayaks and pontoons because they are easy to navigate around small areas. With one of these boats you can fish in the smaller rivers that often get missed, which means you end up with a better haul.

For those of you who want to get around a bit faster or who don’t want to row
