Default Port Aransas 6-12 - 6-15

With the good weather coming down to the coast, Me and my dad decided to head down for a few days. We hit the Port Aransas South Jetty and trekked the 3/4 mile walk with all the gear to the end for some tarpon or king.

Conditions looking straigh into the gulf or mexico from the end

Was able to castnet some mullet of perfect size, around 6 inches, and put them on under a lemon rig on our Penn 8500 reels. Drifted for about 2 hours with no action when i decide to pick up the 5500 with some shrimp under a bobber for spanish mackeral. Only got some skipjack, which went in the box for later sharkbait. Soon after, Dad hooks up with a small tarpon, probably 20 pounds, which throws the hook after about 30 seconds of jumping. With the renewed energy I start fishing the lemon rig again. No action for the rest of the day, except seeing 1 other tarpon around 100 jump 3 feet out of the water about 100 yards out, probably busting bait but we didnt see him again.

That afternoon we decide to hit the ferry landing for some reds, and while trying to net some bait i catch this baby spanish mackeral.

Pretty cool. later on The Texas Treasure leaves its port.
We keep fishing through sunset with no hits, and decide to go get some grub and hit the sack.

Day 2
