Smile Look Out

Look out for the forthcoming photos of the sea fishing we will be doing over the next few days and weekend competition we will be fishing in. The mackerel are so thick and plentyful now that when you fish a trace of six attracters on hooks you come up with SIX fish. We ran out to the headland on the boat last night, my son, girlfriend, and grandson, and we must have collectively caught and released hundreds of mackerel. These mackerel are mad fighting fish if caught on single hook and light saltwater fly gear. They can be up to two pounds, but average around six to ten ounces. Trying to get thru them to the bigger fish at this time of the year is almost imposible, unless you use large lures and big jigs. Local people in this area of Ireland lived on this sort of plentiful supply of fish years ago, they were salted and dried for winter use also. As one local fisherman was quoted saying as he passed out bags and bags of fish to local people after a good days fishing, "had I a boat as big as the Titanic, I could have filled it with Mackerel today"

Keep watching this space you'll see a lot of fish.
