Are sea trout the adult version of the brown trout that live in our streams and lakes?
Sea trout are similar in looks to the brown trout but are a totally separate species. They are similar in life cycle to the salmon, they do migrate to spawn like salmon but do not die afterwards. They can live for up to twenty years and can spawn almost every year. Sea trout live in the sea and only go into fresh water to spawn. Sea trout are native to UK, and are found widely all over the world.Brown trout are a totally different species. They in live in Fresh water and are never found in the sea. Rock Salmon is NOT a salmon at all, it is a dogfish, who lives in the sea. Rock Salmon is a small shark and this has absolutely nothing to do with either sea trout or brown trout. It is called Rock Salmon because it is a more palatable name than dogfish. In Yorkshire, where I live, Rock Salmon is usually called Scarborough Woof. Sea trout and brown trout do both belong to the Salmon family and are generally classed as game fish.
