I think what you are asking about is "sea run brown trout". the answer is yes they move out to sea and then back to spawn, although a small percentage never leave the mouth of the river. stocked fish make up the majority of sea run browns here in maine. we have only recently had a sea run brown fishery, but there are still some fat fish. they definitely grow at a whole different rate when they go to sea!!
