Sounds a lot like our sheephead out here. They eat crabs and lobsters and such, and have a similar sounding meat, although because of their diet they end up tasting a little like crab or lobster.
But they have teeth that sound a lot like what's in your description, too. Here's a nice sized one I caught last winter....
