Thousands of Dollars in Cash and Prizes Up for Grabs,
Including $2,500 Cash for First Place and a 5-Day Costa Rica Fishing Adventure

United Anglers of Southern California (UASC) has announced its first ever Texas Hold ‘Em Poker Tournament, Saturday April 12th at the Normandie Casino in Gardena. This fun event will allow fishermen and card “sharks” from across Southern California to match their poker playing skills as they compete for thousands of dollars in cash and prizes. Proceeds from the event will go to support the ongoing conservation and recreational fishing activities of UASC, including the hard work ahead to positively influence impending MLPA implementation in Southern California waters.

Cash payouts for this first-of-its-kind event (based on a full field of 150 players) include a whopping $2,500 for the tournament’s top finisher. Second Place will earn $1,000, Third Place will take home $800, Fourth Place will grab $500 and the Fifth Place finisher will hook up with $400. There will also be additional cash and prize payouts for the Sixth through 20th Place finishers.

UASC will also be offering an amazing Grand Door Prize for this event — a 5-day dream fishing adventure for two to Crocodile Bay Lodge in Costa Rica, valued at $6,000. This exotic lodge presents anglers with a unique opportunity to combine amazing offshore fishing for dorado, marlin, sailfish and more with world-class inshore angling for tackle-busting snook, roosterfish, grouper and great barracuda. As if all that wasn’t enough, the lodge offers luxurious accommodations surrounded by exotic rainforest foliage and wildlife.

Entry into the tournament requires a $150 buy in, which includes valet parking, poker lessons, lunch, a door prize ticket and a sponsor gift bag. Registration for the event begins 11 a.m., followed by poker instruction at 11:30 a.m. (for those who want to sharpen their skills with tips from the pros). Lunch will be served at Noon, with a valuable prize raffle from Noon until 1 p.m. The poker competition begins at 1 p.m.

“Knowing how competitive fishermen are — and how much they love to exaggerate and B.S. — a poker tournament seemed like the perfect way to get people together for a little fun,” joked Victor Mendez, Events Coordinator for UASC. “It should be a great time, especially since we’ll be playing for some awesome cash awards and prizes. The fact that the proceeds will benefit fishing in Southern California makes the whole event an even better ‘deal’ for everyone involved,” Mendez added.
