Talking Lake Nockamixon, PA

Got a call from a good friend yesterday - "Want to go fish the Nocko this afternoon?" he queried. I pondered this for about 1 second and checked the schedule, I could put off the project i was finishing until this morning, so i said "You bet!." Lake Nockamixon is a 1,450-acre lake that was formed in 1973 as part of a project to have every resident of Pennsylvania within 25 miles of a State Park. The Nocko was designed to serve the needs of the residents of Philadelphia, Easton, Allentown and Bethlehem.

It is a long, narrow and in spots very deep lake. Home to numerous species including Musky and Striped Bass, Nocko is also heavily pressured by round the clock fishing. This makes this lake a great place to fish, but not one of the best spots to catch

He launched from the Marina and I was happy to see that there were only a few other boats out. Mostly, the lake was dominated by the local sailboat clubs, which is fine with me, they do not fish.

We proceeded to motor across the lake to a weed line that has produced for me in the past. As we approached the weeds we began seeing some real large carp cruising and I spotted a pickerel sunning in a thick pile of weeds. I tried casting at teh pickerel but it spooked and shot out of the spot.

We began working the weeds i was using a "coffee" worm, a senko type worm in a color that I love. Matt was switching between lures, tossing a blue / black jig and then a weightless plastic, then a spinner bait. We worked our way east on the lake and we found a spot where there was a sharp drop off causing a break in the weeds. Matt flipped the jig into the break and was rewarded with a nice bass:

We finished the weed beds and moved to an area where there is a sharp drop right from the shore to about 15 feet of water. The water was very clear in this area and spotted a few small SM Bass cruising the stumps and trees in the water. I spotted a nice bass holding under a root ball near the shoreline and after, getting the worm bit off, landed this guy:

We spotted some real large SM Bass but they were not interested in anything we threw at them. I tried a bluegill crank bait and caught:

What was this little sunfish thinking?

Finished out the evening with a few more fish and steady action. What a great day on the water
