Default Can someone here recommend a top line Bass Rod ?

I recently got a AiRRUS Co Matrix 457 Spinning MH 6'6" model for my birthday ..... and I had a fish break one of my oldest rods ... a Shimano Spinning FX200 combo ....

Im replaceing the shimano with a new rod when I go to BPS in Auburn NY in a few weeks ....

Can anyone here recommend a rod that they absolutely loved ?

I have been drooling over the rods in the BPS catalog ... from the G Loomis , to the St Croix's to the Quantums you name it ...

I want to get a Heavy Model as I dont have one of those all my rods are MH ... and the Mediums are to light for around here with the type of structure I fish and fishing from shore .... for the most part ....

I have always wanted a G Loomis .... but would like the opinions of some members here to see what they liked ?

any replies would be appreciated , thanks in advance ....

mike

Mike:

It is all about the money. I recently started using a BPS Extreme EX60MS - 6' medium action and great for crankbaits and jigs. $65.00

My main rod is a St. Croix Legend Elite ES60MLF = Med. Light Fast action -= super sensitive and so light you do not even know you have a rod in your hand $310.00.

If I were to choose, the BPS rod is great and 1/3 the price - plus, it catches just as many fish!

I would NOT get a heavy action rod for shore fishing, will reduce your casting distance and is of limited use. Med light Fast action is what you want, especially for throwing soft plastics

Mike if you have some money get the best All Star you can afford. That is my advice. If you want to stay on a budget my son is very happy with his Pflueger.

Also, I agree with PADavid, stay away from the heavy action you are probably better off with a medium action rod. If you really have to go heavier go medium heavy.

Thanks for the relies guys ....

I will have to see what the BPS Store in Auburn has on hand when I go ...
I will probaly go with the MH model of a model ... I would hate to shell out that kind of dough and have a fish break a lower power rod ... I have already lost 2 , MH to some of the fish around here ....

It will be fun this is the second time I will be going to a large Store like this
but the first time I will be looking to purchase a rod and reel when I am there

talk to you later , thanks again

Not yet padavid ....

I really wont be able to make a choice till I go to the BPS Store in Auburn , NY .... and we dont go till August 1st ....

It will be my first time at this particular store ... from what I hear about thou the Staff is very knowledgeable .... but the selection choices are fewer than some of the other BPS stores ....

so it will depend on what rods and reels they do have ....

Because of the rising Gas Prices we cancelled our trip to the BPS Store in Auburn NY .... I ordered from the catalog instead ...

Im hoping to go to BPS in Hamburg , Pa sometime in February when they have the local Bus Trip that goes every year ... its cheaper that way ...

anyhow I got tons of New Gear coming ... I will post pics of most of it
when I receive them ... they are supposed to be here by the end of the month ....

I will keep what i got a surprise till then , but its worth the wait trust me
