Default Irvine Lake to implement New Inspection Policy

Invasive quagga and zebra mussels are a threat to many U.S. lakes, streams and rivers. The risk of infestation has prompted Irvine Lake officials to implement new inspection policies for boats launched in the Orange County Reservoir.

Additional Lake Staff personnel will be scheduled, to inspect all privately-owned boats prior to launch. For boats and trailers that are clean (no signs of vegetation or other debris) and dry, launching may be expedited. There will also be a questionnaire that must be completed by the boat owner. Boats that do not pass the initial inspection will be required to be cleaned, including treatment with a chlorine solution spray.

Launch fee will be increased from $8 to $10 to help cover the cost of additional personnel.

I'm glad to see they lake implementing something to try and keep the invasive mussels from entering the lake, the extra $3 for launching doesn't seem right.

Especially considering that many of the pb's that frequent the lake don't visit other waters and don't need to be inspected.
