is there anyone that fishes way northern california? I live in Humboldt County, and my dad and I are avid fly fishermen. however, I am trying to get into fishing lakes and lagoons with a spinning rod set up. i was wondering if any of you have had any success up here. it's funny but the only time i've caught a bass of any size at all, i caught it on a 6 wt fly rod. no matter how many trips to Calre Engle (trinity) Lake or Ruth lake or Freshwater lagoon, i never seem to have any luck. I havn't quite figured out how or when they eat like i have with trout and steelhead in the local rivers.

Oh yeah! Clear lake is awesome for bass! I have caught lots of bass right off the dock. I hear its good for crappie but I have never caught one myself. I guess I will actually try next time.

yea the crappy fishing there is actually pretty good if you know what your doing. in 06' i went there with my dad for a trip and i caught 39 bass in less than an hour off a dock where the owners said they have never seen anyone catch a fish other than bluegill. also, i hooked a 2lb slab of a bluegill. it hit a FULL SIZED rapala dt10. WOW. lol. clearlake is the bass capitol of the west coast from what i have heard, and with my expierence, the clame is more than true. btw, all the bass were over 3 lbs and were caught in the middle of the day.
