Default Twlight on the Fabulous Spitfire – Thursday, July 12, 2007

I noticed the Spitfire was running on their summer twilight schedule now… they are on line every night but Wednesday. So Thursday I snuck out of work a little early, changed, and raced down to the landing for a 6:00 departure! Captain Chris loaded all 11 of us on the boat a few minutes before 6:00 with bait already on the boat. Nate on deck hung sacks and collected for JP, while KennyMac helped the inexperienced anglers rig up, and we headed a quick half hour out and we were fishing. And Catching!

We loaded up quickly on some nice rock fish, and then the wind started coming up. I grabbed a delicious burger from Brian in the galley while we moved closer in, trying to find a calmer spot. We got anchored up again, but the conditions took their toll, and there was pretty much no bite after we got shut down on our early spots.

We ended up doing really well though anyway! The 11 passengers grabbed up 2 calico bass, 4 sand bass, 12 white fish, 27 other miscellaneous rock fish, and 13 red snapper, with some really nice sized fish in the mix!! 58 fish for 11 people? You can’t complain about that!!

I took Jackpot with a nice big red snapper, and gave it all to the crew... $110...

And we were back by 10:30, so we could all get home and to sleep in time to be able to make it up ok the next morning!

Chris turned it into a party, offering up occasionally “Next angler to get a fish on the boat gets a free beer or soda from me!” And feeling the wind had shut us down prematurely, he gave everyone a $5 discount for the next trip.

I would like to thank the Spitfire crew for another great trip!

The Spitfire runs ¾ day trips most weekdays and weekends, and twilight trips leaving at 6:00 pm Thursday thru Tuesday. Call ahead and make reservations, as they do have some dates chartered. Call Redondo Sportfishing for reservations or details at (310) 372-2111. I’ve fished the Spitfire a lot, and always had a great time! It’s a nice riding boat, and a great option for getting the kids out on the water!!
