I think I'm ready, as I fish trough the winter here.
But I'm in B.C. so its easy for me to say yes I'm ready... It was different story when we lived in Alberta for 25 years! We did some ice fishing and waited for the May 15th, so we could go north to Fawcett Lake to fish for Walley, Perch and Pikes. That was not so pretty at times.. Boats would be rocking in ice as the wind would blow back ice to the campground at night time. Everybody got woken up at 3 am to haul the boats out of the lake! What a horrible noise it made.. Crunch, Crunch.. Now, I chase after Trout, Kokone salmon, Dolly Vardens and other species. In summer we have the Sturgeon nad Salmon runs. Use to fish the Pacific Ocean, but it got too expensive.. So are you getting ready in your area? You know, you can change lines, tie flies, polish lures, clean your boat and gear etc. So let's talk fishing! MrGrey1 |

Here in Southern California rock fishing opened March 1. That gets a few people back on the water, but for me... I'm kind of holding out for the water to start to warm and wake up some of the "exotics". For Spring, that's yellowtail and white seabass. Its usually into July before we see any tuna locally.
Last year in the spring it seemed like every time it would warm up for a few days and warm up the water around the islands, the wind would come up, turn the water over, and chill it down again. We'd get a day or two worth of a good bite, and then it would be another week to 10 days of good sunshine to warm it up again. and then, more wind! I hope it doesn't go that way this year!! We did have a really good turnout of tuna late summer and into fall last year, with boats out of LA for as little as a day and a half getting into albacore, yellowfin, and bluefin tuna. It was pretty good. So, I'm re-spooling, reorganizing and restocking the old tackle box, and watching the fish reports. I have a trip scheduled for 4/5, and hoping the weather will cooperate! Its been a LONG winter!
