Default How do you catch carp

There has been some discussion on here about carp fishing. I am friends with a bunch of guys who target (and catch) carp on a regular basis.

The key is to chum for them and then get them feeding. Most use feed corn that they boil with sugar and stuff. (Kool-Aid is a big ingredient).

These guys will chum up to three days in advance of there fishing trip and use lots of chum (15-20 gallons is not uncommon). Sliding weights with tiny hooks (size 8 or 10) using sweet corn as bait works.

If you want to get serious about catching these monsters, there are all kinds of things. Bollies, methods balls, bolt rigs, hair rigs and all sorts of other neat stuff.

If you are a fly fisherman, get yourself the tiniest crawfish imitation you can get your hands on, and place it in front of a grass carp and watch him hit and take off! This to works on common carp, but I havent had any luck with commons.
