Starting a new thread to document the next 6 months of fishing in DG!
Great picture to start it out... Just goes to show that you can't trust sharks, even if you are one! Sent to me by Matt while I'm in Hawaii.......... Keep 'em tight! Dean ![]() ![]() |

Wow, usually the sharks out there calm down this time of year. Being more active in the summer. Nice photo.
Just my 2cents! I remember watching a shark chase the tuna that was on my line from the boat. They were both about 30 foot down, but you know how clear that water is!. Well I got the tuna up in time but the shark surfaced about 15 foot out from the boat. Scary stuff, because the shark was about 5 times the size of my 28# tuna. Wild stuff that you will not see anywhere but that island. Looking foreward to more posts from you. Thanks!

Wow, I am full of jealousy right now! I would seriously do anything to get back to that island for just one day of fishing!!!!!!
Nothing compares to it!!!! I actually have been looking up vacations to the maldives, just north of there. Have fun, can't wait for your next report. Hey, tell your buddies on the island to start posting here, we could always use more DG threads. I love reading them!!!! Keeps the island alive, even though i'll never go back!

That would make two of us, wanting to go to maldives. Maybe once we get there fishing we can design a refugee boat to float our way to diego. Heres to hoping anyways, airfare to maldives is ridiculous!!!

Personal note to self.... DO NOT GO DRINKING WITH ROYAL BRITISH COMMANDOS THE NIGHT BEFORE GOING FISHING!!!!! Well, the first trip back was a disaster! Went out with the commandos and well, let's put it this way... I'm glad they're our allies because I only got back to home about 3 hours before wake up time for fishing! The weather has gotten HOT and the winds have died. Last weekend was extremely slow with a couple of Jobe fish and some Travalli. Don't ask about chumming... I provided!!!
Did a little better this weekend with a yellowfin and some travalli. Actually got out fished by the other boats and lost $10 usd on a side bet to ROPO 3!!! This next weekend straight to southpoint! New boats came in today and expect them to be in the H20 this next weekend. Prices have also gone up to $100.00 per half day this next weekend..............yes, still a deal! Was so bummed at losing my side bet I forgot to take pics! My long time fishing partner Mike has moved back to Texas and I wish him well! Mike you are going to miss this place! Justin a boat captain for three years in Guam is my new fishing partner and he knows his SH@#! now if we can just stay away from drinking with the brits we should be ok! More to follow... did I mention how much I missed not being here to fish? nuff said! Keep 'em tight! Dean |

Well had this all ready to go.. did some cutting and pasting to try to fix the image size below and lost all the info I had typed.
Too tired to recreate it all so...... Pics are from this month, it's really slowed down. Hot in the afternoon but, the YF are still running! Included a picture of some of the more successfull lures that have been hitting... hope it helps someone before they get here to make some choices I uploaded these to the saltwater gallery on this site. Keep 'em tight! Thanks for the info. The trend is they slow down during this time of year. They will pick back up in the spring time! I have been there both winter and summer.
Nice pics! Those lures look like the standard on the island, wish I had this kind of info before I took my two tours there!

That sucks about the storm's there, from what I understand they never used to hit the island! We had one in 04 that would have wiped the island clean if we would have got hit by it? But it turned just before hitting the island, it was a cat 5 hurricane/typhoon. Scary stuff, stay safe if it's a big one coming!

Okay it was an afternoon reschedule since we got closed out by the dreaded yellow flag on Thanksgiving... (Yes, I was going fishing rather than doing the "turkey thing").
Afternoons have been really slow lately so expectations were low.... just goes to show you never know what will happen! Same lure, two different locations (Simpson and South point). These are catch and release so the two Wahoo we picked up made for a nice trip all the way around! ![]() http://www.myfishsite.com/forums/pho...index.php?n=65 ![]() http://www.myfishsite.com/forums/pho...index.php?n=66 |

OMG, you don't see that very often on the rock. I know they are out there, tried three times to catch one while I was there. What a rush, how many times did he break the surface? Did you chase him, or he just hit?
That is an awesome catch, and a lifetime catch at that! Very nice!

Well,
Been a while since I've posted or even logged in with my computer... guess I'd better get off my backside and do some updates now that the Holiday Season is pretty well done. ![]() Have a slew of pictures to upload and I'll try to get those done in the next week or so. However, a quick review on the new boats we got on island.... be warned though I am prejudiced towards the ocean master center console 30'+ craft! There are now 3 new boats on island the Boston Whaler Conquest 305 to be specific. They replace three of the four ocean master's we have on island with OM #2 being the only remaining original boat captained by Lito. The 305 is a very nice luxury recreation boat. The outboard four strokes are extremely quiet and have exceptional power for the fuel they burn. An entire half day trip with several high speed runs and extended trolling on station at 10-13 kts only burned 30.2 gallons! ![]() The cabin is out fitted nicely with cherry wood, sink, micro wave, reefer, head, integrated sound system, etc. etc. etc. ![]() With that all said... THIS IS NOT A FISHING BOAT! ![]() The ride is too pitchy with excessive roll and yaw even on very smooth sea state 1 seas. The cabin though beautiful is not utilized while fishing and I predict that they will hardly ever be used except for the head. ![]() Transom is a bit too high which makes it very difficult to leader line your catch and you definitely can feel the strain in your back after gaffing and landing anything over 25lbs. ![]() Storage for fish... after all that’s why we troll... is extremely small and awkwardly placed on the main deck outboard with nothing for any large fish... unless you want to store them in the battery compartment, which doesn't seem like a good idea to me for some reason. There is no real seating except for a bench type seat that interferes with getting to the centerline rod in the case of running more than 4 poles in one pattern. ![]() Fighting chair... none. ![]() Question? with an integrated sound system built into the hull doesn't that sound get transmitted to the sea around you? Maybe the fish will like the tunes and jump on the hook? Well, at least there will be one fishing boat left on the waterfront... you got it the original ocean master that's been here for years. Since they are transferring some nice 250 4 stroke merc's to it it'll probably be even better than before! Heh heh, almost done with my rant! Here's the kicker! Prices are going to now be double what they were when I got here!!!! Yes fuel plays a huge part in this I'm sure but.... do we have to keep the big white elephants and pay for them too???????? That's it! I'll post pics over the next couple of days... and yes I've already reserved the ocean master for the weekend! Keep 'em tight! Aloha!
