Northern Sydney & Broken Bay Fishing
That current springs up when you least expect it. A southerly run has made baits hard to get down, yet other days you head out there and it’s as tame as a poodle. With water this warm, a trip out wide in search of FAD’s, fish floats, in fact any flotsam and jetsom will I’m sure will see the prevalent mahi mahi or Dolphin Fish. It’s not the norm to catch them this early but let me know if you come across this delicious sportsfish. ROCK and BEACH Tailor has been the mainstay during the day and big, silvery Yellowfin Bream are showing at night off our beaches. Mulloway are absent from the beach report this week but with the holiday season coming up, there will be a lot more anglers targeting them. Throwing a whole side of a Tailor out off Dee Why rocks, Merv Connor rested the rod in a crack. Five minutes later, the rod fell over and the reel coughed out line. Picking it up, he knew he was on to something that was going to take a while to bring in. After ten minutes of jumping from rock to rock, he eventually saw it was a big Yellowtail Kingfish. With no idea how to get it in and, having seen what it was, Merv decided to give the fish its Xmas freedom, so he pulled as hard as he could and felt the line part from the hook. ESTUARY Witches hat traps are still producing a feed of Blue Swimmer Crabs. Great news for all those who love that delicate white meat. Working a Squidgy Slick Rig plastic lure, Anthony Tonks nailed a 75cm Dusky Flathead near the channel marker in Pittwater. This was just one of a number of lizards that were caught and released on this prime lure. My roving kayak reporter had a ball on small Yellowtail Kingfish near South Head in the Harbour last week. He reports bigger fish are in Middle Harbour but a bit shyer. Enjoying a ten day holiday at Cottage Point, Josh Rickard-Ford found plenty of action. Leatherjackets became a nuisance but a few small jewfish were taken as were a heap of Arrow Squid, Tailor and, as a bonus some keeper Dusky Flathead. Taken from Fishnet | Home
