Some local fishing reports from michigan fisherman. Looks like it's heating up!
lake erie fished fri. straight out from bolles in 14 fow, tough bite for me. 9:00 to 3:30 35 perch weighed 12 lbs. my bass tracker was swinging and bobbing from the waves, laid down a little and the bite pick up but still slow. water color was good. Saint Ignace I stopped at Farmers Insurance to talk to Bob Holmes and he reported catching some nice steelhead. Fishing spawn sacks on a river near Saint Ignace. Pictures are at North Bay Cottage - Fenlon News With all the rain we've been getting they have slowed down becasue of the tanic acid from the cedar trees being washed into the river. If we get a few days relief from the rain it will be prime time to catch steehead again. If you are in the area email me and I will give you specifics on where to fish. muskegon channel The White fish usually turn on around the begining of rifle season to about the first week in December. Last year was an off season for those whitefish, but I still got my share of those tasty critters! Remember if your down there when they are running, lets stay honest and let the foul hooked ones go! I will report all poaching I see....Tight Lines!! Muskegon River & Pier Ok I stopped at a bait shop in North Muskegon. They said the whitefish have not started. The snow/rain next week they thought could be the trigger. I did not go down there last night and check. So you can take it anyway you want. I did speak to several guides on the river and they are getting steelhead, 2-3 a trip, but these are the guys are the ones I know will pull 8-15 a trip. So it is tough. I also spoke to my neighbor who is on the river everyday (retired) He says it has been tough also, he said REAL tough. He said that he has consulted his records, and he says this year is like it was 10 years ago when they showed up in December. I am certain though if we get a serious rain, all things can change. The river is very low, and I just past the river where it empties in Muskegon Lake and there is an exposed sand bar at the mouth, so yeah it is low. I will be going this weekend on the river to check out some new turf to map out some holes around Bridgeton while water is low so I can see what is going on. Not much to go on but that is what I know what is going in this side of the state. Hope it helps Saginaw river I fish the Laffyette(sp?)st bridge. I've been doing this for about 7-8yrs now. I used to run size 14 husky jerks, but the water was about 2 feet higher then. Now I use a size 10 or 12, blue/silver, clown, firetiger are the best colors. Sometimes, especially on calm nights, a floater is best. I've only seen one, maybe two other people in this time frame doing this. You can do it in Saginaw as well, but it's better in BC right now. Most of the fish are 15-20in right now, but I took a 23 and the 26 inch fish. Brevoort Lake & Muskie Bay Perch are in shallow water at Muskie Bay near Cedarville. Best fishing is in six feet of water on the south side of the bay just outside of Duck Bay. Minnows are the preferred bait fished with a crappie rig plain hooks. Perch up to 13 inches are being caught my buddy threw several this size back as they are full of spawn and the perch are still recovering from the Cormorants. Another huge Muskie was caught on Brevoort Lake last weekend by Dave H. he long line released it at the boat as he was perch fishing and had no net. Said it was at least 4 1/2 ft. long it bit his crappie rig as he was pulling up a small perch. He says fishing will continue to get better for the next few weeks. Pictures of the last huge Muskie as well as perch are at North Bay Cottage - Fenlon News I put my boat inside for the winter and I'm building a new ice fishing shack to go with the cabin rental.
