new to fishing needing a little help

so i used to fish loads with my father as a young girl and the hobby escaped me for a few years - for the past month i have gotten back into it trying to learn from scratch and casting into local ponds & recently a lake in Maine

if anyone has any good websites/forums etc that they reccomend newbees to have a look at it would be much appreciated!

What pointers do you need to start this off, I can think of a couple right off the bat!

What kind of reel are you using open/closed?
Also, what types of fish are you fishing for?
