Wink BPS Broken Rod

Hi everyone on the site. Well I haven't been on the site for some time, to busy fishing, sorry. Well I really enjoyed my new friends from the USA coming over to fish with me earlier in the year, didn't catch much but hey it was a good time. (hope yer well Tom ) After they returned I decided to go fish for salmon with my friends, I had purchased a BPS fly rod with a giftcard that I won on this site, a White River Classic 6 weight 2 piece rod. The guys who were over from the USA used it on Carramore Lake Bangor Erris I was guiding / ghillieing some friends on the river when I hooked a good size salmon, not a monster but I would estimate it to be around say 8 /10lb . I was assured by someone on BPS chat forum that this rod was capable of handling salmon of that size . The top section of the rod broke clean when the fish ran away from me??????????? I didn't put any undue presure on the rod. Needless to say I was very embarassed, not for myself but for the people who i fished with, as this was to be their fish. I contacted BPS and as it was under warranty, they said they would replace it. Get this ! they didn't want the rod back????????? With all the confusing emails back and forward they had indicated that they did not want the rod back? I thought this was strange, surely they would want to check it for defects? No it seems that the cost of sending it back to them in the US from Ireland was to much, aroud $50 shipping. But I sent it without knowing. BPS did give me my shipping costs back with another rod which I paid more towards and another reel. I have had a replacement from BPS, but just didn't have the confidence to fish for salmon with it, in fact I have given it away. So thanks BPS for the embarrasment, the lenghthy drawn out emails, the sub service and the not so good "your custom is very important to us" service . Thats my rant for the week now, I feel better for that.
Regards
SDD

Yeah Dave, shipping broken stuff back is often too expensive, especially if it was made in china or somewhere.

Just easier for them to send a new one.

I was reading on another thread you were looking for a 3/4 coat to keep out the wet. (Then I saw the thread was started in 2007!)

Anyway a company called Swanndri from New Zealand make excellent wet weather gear, usually has a big wool content.

They have some distributors in the UK but their website will give you some idea.

Search under 'Men'.

Swanndri NZ Website and Online Store

Sucks that it broke. I myself have had fantastic service from BPS and thats more then likely due to I live 30 miles from one lol. Good luck on the next decent salmon hope your rod holds up this time. I know I would been upset over that myself. My wife shut a shimano rod in the rod locker on the basboat one day and got the tip cut it clean off. Well we went into BPS and was talking to the guy since he asked me if I needed help said what rod I am looking for and why he said bring in the old one so I sent the wife out she brought it in they gave me a new rod and installed my reel and even rewound it with fresh line and that suprised me needless to say as it was user neglect not a defect. Just sucks though that you didnt get what you were hoping for. Maybe next time for you Well lets hope you never break another rod anyways lol.
