Default physics What is the minimum acceleration?

A person fishing hooks a 7.0-kg fish on a line that can only sustain a maximum of 38 N of force before breaking. At one point while reeling in the bass, it fights back with a force of 41 N. What is the minimum acceleration with which you must play out the line during this time in order to keep the line from breaking?

The fish fights back with a force of 41 N and the line can sustain only 38 N before being in danger of breaking. This 38 N represents the maximum force you can exert to restrain the fish, the remaining 3 N being taken up by the acceleration of the fish away from you. Using F = ma, this represents an accelaration of 3 N / 7.0 kg = 0.43 m/sec^2.
