Smile Sandsinkers - More Info

The idea is to MEASURE the sand after it has dried. Say: 1/4 cup or 1/2 cut or whatever. Then just use that amount. If the sandsinker is only 3/4 full it works better because when casting the sand moves to the very tip of the sinker and keeps the line straight.

I must admit that this "exact oz" business baffles me. I just make a bunch of sandsinkers of all different sizes and styles and choose one that seems to be the right size for the situation.

Then I dip it into water just before casting and cast over the rocks.

One interesting thing I have found is that lead sinkers have an advantage when casting INTO THE WIND but sandsinkers have an advantage when casting WITH THE WIND. Like kites they use the wind to go further. Sometimes the other folks on the jetty have been amazed at how far my kite-sandsinker goes with the wind. One guy said "How did you do that?"

AOL Hometown is shutting down so I moved the site to a new domain (Yahoo)\

http://www.perkons1.com/SANDSINKERS/Sandsinkers.html

Please pass it on to anyone who might find it useful.

The site has had over 9,000 hits so far, some from far away places around the world: Singapore, Malaysia, Senegal, Japan, Bulgaria, etc. I check it out with sitemeter from time to time and it's a hoot.

Many people have been inventing new ways to use the sandsinkers, including rigging and adding scent. Because I will be re-doing the site in a month or two with additional pages of pictures and suggestions, please send me pictures of any interesting rigging system with sandsinkers and also pictures of yourself with any fish you have caught using sandsinkers, including the method, location, type of fish, etc. My e-mail address is perkonss@yahoo.com.

Thanks. Perkons
