Went fishing below Flat Rock Dam this morning, and found that the recent floods brought in a ton of huge longnose gar and carp. This is the biggest one i could catch, although there were some monsters out there that must of been 4 feet or longer. You could see them as clear as day swimming along and busting shad. Pretty cool sight. Also could see 20+ carp around 10 pounds swimming in 2 feet of water, but didnt have my special carp bait so maybe next time. Tried to get a gar on fly, but it was really hard because they dont hold on to the bait.
pretty small pond, gets shallower near the dam fall, but one throw of the cast net into the sloth will get you a days bait worth of shad. ![]() ![]() tb |

They are a spectacular looking species, do they grow much bigger than that ?
Nice pics, good to see young fellas getting into the best sport on earth. Cheers James

I was wondering about how to catch those on my trip to Florida a month ago.
Congratualations on catching some of those weird looking fish. We don't have any of those around here. I'd be interested to know if you need to be quick to set the hook or if you need to let them run with the bait a bit. |

You need to let them run. Once you feel the pick up, open up the bail arm and count to 60, then set the hook. Do this because they fiddle around wit hit in their mouth before taking it.
