In a week or two, or both, Im heading to oc md where i plan on fishing in the chesapeake bay where I often get shut out. I wanted to know if anyone had any ideas, what id like to do is bait fish with one rod and fish for stripers with lures on my other rod, I plan on using large swimbaits and rat-l-traps. Has anyone fished there? if so plz let me know how you did and what you used. Welcome to any tips, the more the better.

If you are heading to OC MD then you will not be one the Chesapeake Bay - that bay is the Assawomen Bay.
The Chessie is about 30 miles south of OC MD. Right now the Stripers (or Rockfish) are most likely taking chunk bait - not lures. Whole Peanut Bunker is usually deadly. There are mostly Schoolie Size Striper in the 3-5 lb range left, but they can be fun. Make sure you get a VA Saltwater License if you do travel to the Chessie. While in OC MD stop by Harbor Bait and Tackle - see Bev. Tell her that I sent you - they will hook you up with the good reports and spots. Last edited by PADavid : 07-24-2007 at 11:54 AM. |

harbor bait and tackle is that the one on like 22nd or 23rd st, lol i always thought that was the chesapeake never asked or questioned the idea, on my last trip i hooked about a 9 pound rock fish that was prob 20 to 25 inches on a trap but i saw countless fish slamming live bait fish, but i couldnt catch any bait fish for bait, for the assawomen bay ill need a md salt water license?
