I would assume it would be similar to muskie fishing! Large crank baits or live bait with a hefty steel leader! The steel leader is a must from what I understand about the prehistoric creatures! Hope this helps!

If the fish are more than 4 feet long, then I use a 7' heavy uglystick with a good spinning reel, spooled with 20 pound test. Use about a 4 foot steel leader with a big bluegill or shad or whatever on it. Once one takes it, dont set the hook right away.. let line out and let it run for about a minute, because it will fiddle with the bait before actually taking it, and any quick strikes may just rip it out of the fishes mouth.

Slim,
I would reccomend a size 10 BPS treble hook, found here Bass Pro Shops Round Bend Treble Hooks

They have worked well for me in the past and I hope they work for you too, be sure to post some pictures if you land one.

A simple hook through the back end near the tail will work fine, just dont hit the fishes spine or you will paralize it.
