Depends on what kind of fish you hope to catch. Minnows are good for some. There are other small bait fish that people catch and use. Some people use lures.DD

Hi nIcola,There are many baits and lures suitable for sea fishing. My favorite, depending on exactly where I'm fishing (usually in tropical or subtropical waters) is from conch, or similar large shellfish. Break them open and load onto your hook. If you fish as dusk falls this bait is virtually irresistable to fish.If fishing in daylight sandworms are always good, as are mussels and other shellfish, but why not take the opportunity to use lures. These are designed to mimic the appearance and movement of small fish and can be very succesful. (As an added bonus, the constant casting out and reeling in gives you something to do and prevents boredom which can sometimes happen when you merely dangle a loaded hook into water.)Choose you bait size and hook size carefully as a hook that is too small tends to slip out of a large fish's mouth and one that is too large will deter smaller fish from biting. If you want to catch big fish, use a big hook, well loaded with bait or a larger lure.Whichever you choose enjoy your fishing and remember that almost everything you catch from the sea can be eaten...Try not to be one of those so-called 'sport' fisherpersons who are out to catch virtually anything by purely mechanical means, e.g. large boats at speed with a lure and heavy line and rods...the poor fish has no chance and it's hardly sport then, is it?Cheers and good hunting,BobSpain
