Fishing supplies for tackle box...?

My boyfriend is really into fishing, and I want to set him up with a new tackle box and supplies for it. I know some of the basics, (needle nose plyers, cutters, line, hooks, filet knife and bait knife etc). We live in San Luis Obispo (well, on the water nearby) and we catch everything from sharks to rock cod to halibut. We go for pretty much anything that will put up a fight. We fish in lakes, on the beach, in the estuary/bay. I just need some reccomendations of what kinda hooks and stuff would be good for kindof a wide variety of fish and environments.Thanks for any reccomendations!

All i will add is DONT buy cheap store brand line and hooks. The line snaps and hooks bend. I use Eagle Claw hooks and Stren line. Also avoid Walmart they have cheap prices but you do get what you pay for. Best bet go to your local bait shop tell them what your fishing for they will help you out. Happy Fishing.

Wal-Mart sells EAGLE CLAW hooks and STREN LINE for the turd who said you get what you pay for. Anyway, i would set him up with a bass plastics box. Worm hooks, several different kinds of senko worms, curly tails, and salimanders (i don't know how to spell that word), and bullet weights.

Been at it for many, many a' moons and as for the brand of hook's I use, it be Gamakatsu (personally nothin' better). They'll have them for just bout' any species, both Salt or Freshwater. Sounds like you have a very wide range of supplies that you could go for. Check with a local tackle shop and see if they offer gift certificates. This way both of you can go and get what he wants and needs. I would never want my wife to try and buy fishing tackle for me but a gift certificate is always fun and appreciated.

As far as HOOKSMUSTADGamatsu and Matuso hooks are better.Line the polymer lines rule. I love PowerProI LOVE Berkely artifical lures. they are cheaper and work great.

i agree with bob,a gift certificate would be the way to go.let him pick out what he wants in the tackle box.that way he can't say why did you buy this or this.i know my wife couldn't buy tackle for me.and to ask a sales person,they will sell you stuff that he want use.or just take him and let him pick it out.that's the only way he will get what he wants.good luck.

Peter_AZ is a Cali guy. He could tell you what to stock your tackle box with. I will star your Q in the hopes he will see it & answer. Halibut-Sharks and everything in-between? I'm guessing you will need some "particular" items. From experience, I WILL tell you to purchase a decent set of Needle-nose pliers (stainless) & perhaps a Leatherman. Personally, I dred when my wife tries to surprise me with "cool" tackle & lures, because she inevitably always gets the wrong thing. We have an agreement in our house. I don't buy her clothing or apparell and she doesn't buy me fishing gear. (LOL)A win/win situtation! (lol)
