    Default Is it really December?

Got all the way up to 45* today - slightly overcast but it sure felt fishy to me. I do not know why, but it just felt like the bass would bite.

I had a few options but I decided to head to a lightly fished abandoned farm pond that we call the Gauntlet. We call it that becuase of the dense thorn bushes and plethora of deer ticks the make you run "The Gauntlet" to enter or exit the pond.

Arrived there around 10:30 a.m. in a very light rain. It soon stoped and the sun was playing peek-a-boo with the low hanging clouds. You could almost feel the barometer dropping; perfect LM bass weather.

Started out with a 4" Husky Jerk in Ghost White - on my third cast I saw a bass swipe and miss the lure giving me great confidence, at least they were in an eating mood. A few casts later and I get a sharp tug and this little guy is hooked:

I keep working the same spot and see another bass swim right up to the Husky Jerk but not hit it. I switch to a jig and pig and hook a decent bass but it roll with the lure and pops off.

I move to an abandoned beaver damn and the jig and pig gets these guys:

I switch to a Daiwa DB Minnow and nail another dink - no photo it look just like fish number one!

I go back to the jig and pig and a fish hits it on three successive cast but each time drops the bait - maybe it was just nosing it? I then try an x-rap and they woudl hit that on the pause but not get hooked!

Finally, I open up my new bag of Black JDBaits 4" Senko type lures. These baits are really nice - super soft so they had good action even in the freezing cold water.

I get my biggest fish of the day - it was well over 5lbs

It sucked the JDBaits lure right down!

Here is the size of the mouth - this fish was a freaking PIG!

Rock fishing season closes here the end of December. There's not much ocean fishing after that, but I've been to the lakes here in the winter and had some luck occassionally. Those pics make me want to give that another shot this year!!!

    Awesome!
